Careline365 against new TV Licence proposals
Careline365 would like to voice our concerns regarding this week's news on plans to change the current TV licence scheme for the over 75s. There have been reports that the BBC is planning to try and persuade over 75's to give-up their free TV licence, either in voluntary terms or by changing the law completely in 2020. This comes following the broadcaster's decision to take on the costs of providing free TV licences from 2017 on-wards from the Government - with the clause that they can change the rules 2020. Retirement home fees: ripping off the elderly?
An investigation by Britain's legal watchdog has found that hidden retirement home fees costing thousands of pounds are being imposed on elderly people. Pensioners are being hit with rip off charges when they are moving into residential care homes or closer to family. "In some cases, elderly people are losing £60,000 on a £200,000 property when they move house. Care home market heading for a crash?
The BBC have reported that we could be seeing the care home market heading for a crash, due to large debts and government cuts. Although the number of beds have increased, the number of care homes has actually fallen by roughly 5%. It is the smaller care homes that seem to be most at risk and therefore closing their doors. Although there are very large care home providers such as; Four Seasons, Bupa, Care UK, Barchester and HC-1, they only control about a fifth of the market.
