The Careline Alarm system includes the pendant and a base unit. The base unit itself is a small device which plugs into the alarm user’s mains power and telephone socket. On the base unit there are three functioning buttons, which potential customers often ask about. In today’s FAQ article we answer the question: What do the buttons do on the Careline Alarm?
Help
The main button on the Careline Alarm unit is the help button. This is the square button that has a red outline, located in the bottom-right of the unit. This help button works in exactly the same way as the button on our pendant.
If the alarm user requires assistance and it’s more convenient, or easier, for them to reach their base unit, this is the button they should press. Like the pendant, pressing the help button will send an alarm call through to the monitoring team.
A member of our highly-trained team will respond within second via the loudspeaker on the base unit. They’ll ask the user what has happened, assess their situation and begin calling for help via emergency contacts and, if required, the emergency services.
Cancel
Above the help button is the cancel button. This is a smaller button which features a green outline. This is the button that should be pressed if the alarm user has pressed their pendant by mistake or if the situation is a false alarm.
By pressing this button, the alarm user is informing our monitoring team that they don’t require any assistance, and that they are fine. It’s not a problem if the user is unable to cancel their alarm call in time, as our monitoring team are always happy to speak to our customers. In fact, they may use the false alarm as an opportunity to test the alarm system.
Away
The third button is located above the cancel button. This is officially known as the Home/Away Button and features a yellow outline. The alarm user should press this button if they’re going to be away for a long period of time. For example, they may be going on holiday or to visit family and friends.
By pressing the yellow button, the alarm user is informing our monitoring team that there will be no response should they try to contact the alarm user. It means that the monitoring team shouldn’t be concerned if nobody answers a test call.
Upon return from their break, the alarm user should press the yellow button again to inform the monitoring team of their return.
Other Features of the Careline Alarm Unit
Alongside the three buttons, alarm users will also find a loudspeaker and built-in microphone. The loudspeaker is used by the monitoring team to communicate with the alarm user, whilst the user can then respond via the microphone.
The alarm unit also has a back-up support battery. This is a rechargeable device that can last up to 40 hours and will boot up during a power cut. This means that our alarm users can always find help should they need it.
