A key safe is a strong mechanical box that stores a spare key securely inside. The keys will only be accessible when using the correct combination code that your loved one creates.
Why do I need a key safe?
You or your loved one may live alone and find it difficult to answer to door, especially after a fall. An outdoor key safe eliminates the need to leave keys under doormats and flowerpots, or to issue multiple sets of keys. It is an ideal way for family members or health care professionals to access the property.
Where should I install a key safe?
Key safes are generally installed on an exterior wall with most being fitted directly into brick or concrete. The location will depend on a number of different factors, however, we recommend that all key safes are installed out of easy sight to minimise the risk of attracting unwanted attention. We will keep a record of the location and the code and only pass this information to the emergency services if they need to gain access to the property.
How secure is a key safe?
Key safes are all designed to be secure. They are a discreet means of externally storing a spare key and are much safer compared to handing out various sets of spare keys or storing under a garden ornament.
The Supra C500 was the first key safe in the UK to undergo rigorous attack tests. This earned a security rating demonstrating the C500 provides the same security as a domestic front door. With this security rating, the C500 has since gained Police Approval through the Secured by Designed scheme – one of only two key safes to do so.
Things to consider when choosing a key safe
Buttons or Combination
We offer both combination style key safes and push button. Combination style locks are the most common, however push button key safes are also a good option. The push button allows your loved one to choose a code from thousands of options and can also be easier to use.
Size
Think about how many keys need to be stored inside. If you only have one outdoor key, the smallest option will probably be more than appropriate. If you have gate keys, front door and porch door keys, you may need to consider one of the larger safes.
Design
Key safes with covers are less obvious to those passing by. The cover will also help to protect the key safe from the weather.
Ordering a Key Safe
If you think a key safe would be a good idea for your loved one, we provide three options to choose from.
