Former deputy Prime Minister John Prescott was admitted to Hull Royal Infirmary on Friday, after suffering a stroke. A statement was released on Lord Prescott’s Twitter, praising the swift actions of the ambulance staff, doctors and nurses in A&E and the stroke unit. The statement read ‘they have been remarkable, and we cannot thank them enough.’
Former Home Secretary Alan Johnson stated that John is ‘over the worst.’ He went on to say, ‘now it’s about the aftercare, it’s what comes afterwards that is as important as what happens on the day of the stroke itself.’ This comes after mentioning that there had been no concerns for Lords Prescott’s health in the days leading up to the stroke, and that there had been no signs of him slowing down.
Lord Prescott entered Parliament in 1970 as a Labour MP for Hull East. He held a seat for almost 40 years and went on to serve as deputy Prime Minister to Tony Blair for 10 years.
Key political figures including Tony Blair and Theresa May have all sent their regards to John Prescott and wish him ‘a full and speedy recovery.’
