Fall Detection

Fall detection explained

Every Careline365 device includes fall detection as standard. It adds an important layer of protection. Here's what it can do and what you need to know.

What is fall detection, and why does it matter?

Trips and falls can happen to any of us, at any time, and in those moments, you may not be able to press your button or be too shaken or disoriented to use it.

Fall detection is designed to handle this kind of situation automatically. If the device senses a hard fall and you don't respond, it alerts our care team on your behalf.

We include it as standard on every device, because we believe everyone deserves that additional peace of mind.

A trip on the corner of a rug, a stumble over the dog, it can seem so minor. Yet falls send more older people to the hospital than anything else. Fall detection is an extra layer of reassurance for those moments.

It won’t prevent a fall, but it can help raise the alert when a fall happens.

How does it work?

Fall detection is designed to recognise sudden, hard impacts while filtering out everyday movements. No fall detector can detect every fall. Slower falls, like gradually slipping from a chair or catching yourself on the way down, may not always be detected. How and where you wear the device can also make a difference.

When a fall is detected, the alarm device pauses for a few seconds to check if you're okay. If it detects movement, it assumes you're alright and won't call our team.

If there's no response and no movement, you’ll normally be connected to our team in seconds, day or night. They'll assess the situation and arrange the help you need - emergency services, your emergency contacts, or simply a reassuring check-in. Even if you’re unable to speak, we'll follow our specific procedure to get the right help to you.

Fall detection can provide additional reassurance, but it cannot detect every fall and should not be relied on as the only way to raise an alert. Whenever you are able, pressing your button yourself is the most reliable way to contact our team.

How our personal alarms work

Staying connected

Our alarm watches and pendants with EverNear Anywhere Cover rely on mobile network to call our team. They can raise a fall detection call where a mobile signal is available.

With EverNear Home Cover, your Alarm Hub works via an Ethernet cable connected to your internet router, and for our EverNear Anywhere Cover, mobile signal via a SIM card is what allows your alarm button to raise a call to our team.

When you first receive your device, you'll need to range test your alarm button to make sure it works throughout your home and - if you have one - garden, so you can be confident an alarm call can be raised wherever you are.
