As we age it can become more of a task to find the right holiday destination. You may have visited many places before and desire somewhere completely different, or want to travel less distance, perhaps you even have certain requirements or want to be somewhere with like-minded holidaymakers.

If you've travelled a lot and visited several different countries before, you might agree with us on saying that certain places suit certain age demographics.

For example, Ibiza and Mallorca draw in a fairly young crowd, as do many cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, and Budapest.

The likes of the Maldives, France, or The Mediterranean attract often older holidaymakers, which could be down to what's on offer, costs and lifestyles.

1. Italy - Tuscany

Tuscany, a region in the centre of Italy, is a vast area of 23,000 km and spans from the Apennines to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its capital, Florence, is home to beautiful renaissance art and architecture, including the work of Michelangelo.

The area is very popular among international tourists and has scenery from gorgeous sandy beaches, to luscious green vineyards and hills.

Tuscany is a great option for elderly holidaymakers because not only does it have so many places to see and visit, such as the medieval buildings and many museums in the Capital, but also because it offers the chance to relax and enjoy the landscape in the outer parts where there are gorgeous villas and hotels tucked away in towns and villages where locals are friendly and often you'll find other English speaking holidaymakers too.

In addition to this, Italy is a short flight from Britain so a much more comfortable holiday destination to reach without having to face long haul flights and jetlag.

2. Spain - Malaga

Malaga is a port city located on southern Spain's Costa del Sol. Malaga was once known for high rise holiday blocks, however, it has now shaken off its reputation as being merely a gateway to the Costa del Sol. With a recent revamp, the city is now home to an impressive port and a cultural hub. Malaga displays the perfect balance of both new and old. New restaurants, hotels, and revitalized parts of the city are of course great. But the city also is one of the oldest in Spain and has rich history scattered across the city. The cobbled streets, and old squares are a must see.

Malaga offers both affordable resorts with multiple swimming pools and restaurants, but also if you're more into having your own space, there are villas and apartments you can rent out too.

Again, Malaga is another place that's easy to get to in terms of travel. It's a short flying distance, and many airports across the UK have direct flights with no need to go from London - great if you don't live so close the capital and one less journey to make.

3. World Cruise

If you're looking to be a bit more adventurous, but don't want the hassle of flying halfway across the world to go to one destination, why not book a cruise? Cruises are massively popular among the over 65's. They accommodate everyone's needs, with everything possible on offer to you. From activities to events, various dining opportunities, and of course multiple stop offs at destinations across the world depending on the type of cruise that's booked.

Cruises are great for the elderly and is great chance to meet and socialise with other like-minded holidaymakers. It's a grand type of trip and very much stress free once booked and you're on that ship!

4. Great Britain - Cornwall

Looking for somewhere closer to home? Cornwall is the perfect getaway for all ages but particularly the over 65's. It's stunning and has lots of beautiful places to visit.

The likes of Newquay, St. Ives, and Penzance are definitely gems within our country. There is an excellent range of places to stay, from hotels and B&B, to cottages and holiday homes.

If you're not looking to make a long stay, there are various coach excursions to Cornwall for the over 60's. These trips include guided tours, stop offs at various points, and meals included. It's a great opportunity to meet others and socialise with similar ages.
