Here at Careline365, the national personal alarm provider, we are able to offer VAT exemption to many of our customers in order to comply with the rules set out by the Government. This means that you can save 20% on the regular price of a personal alarm, smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector.
To help you understand the VAT rules and regulations we will now explain the VAT law here in the UK and the criteria you need to meet in order to remove VAT from your order.
VAT Exemption Requirements
UK residents purchasing products that have been adapted for their domestic or personal use could be exempt from paying any VAT, but they must meet certain criteria set by the Government. In order to remove the VAT from your order, you must have a disability, terminal illness, a long-term illness or a long-term physical/mental impairment.
A long-term illness is considered to be a condition which lasts long than three months and includes:
- Heart Disease
- Cancer
- Osteoporosis
- Motor Neuron Disease
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Kidney Disease
- Parkinson's Disease
- Hypertension
- Arthritis
A long-term physical or mental impairment can include conditions that have a negative impact on your day-to-day life, such as:
- Asthma
- Blindness
- Wheelchair use
- Downs Syndrome
- Dementia
- Epilepsy
Exceptions
There are a couple exceptions to the VAT exemption laws as stated by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, which states that:
- An elderly person without a disability or illness do not qualify for VAT exemption - Being 'elderly' does not mean that you qualify.
- People that are temporarily disabled - due to a broken arm or foot for example - do not qualify.
Ready to order
Now that you have read our little guide to VAT exemption, you are ready to purchase one of our life-saving personal alarm devices. When you order an alarm from Careline365 you will receive a base unit to plug into your telephone socket as well as a stylish MyAmie Pendant which you can wear around your wrist or neck.
If you have a fall or feel unwell, all you need to do is press the red button on your pendant and our 24-hour Care Team will receive an instant alert. The team, who are fully accredited by the TSA, will speak with you over the base unit to assess the situation before calling for your emergency contacts.
Emergency contacts are usually the customer's family members, close friends or neighbours who are able to go round to their home should they need help. The emergency services will also be called if the situation requires them to attend.
There are two different Careline price plans for you to choose from. You can choose to pay monthly with a VAT Exemption price of £13.89 per month, or you can choose to pay yearly with a VAT Exemption price of £125 - or the equivalent of £2.40 per week.
Both price plans come with a one-off additional payment of £40, which covers the set-up and administration costs.
