In this particular blog we’re going to be taking a walk down movie memory lane! To be more precise, we’ll be talking about the famous and incredibly huge Forrest Gump movie, which was released exactly 23 years ago (June 6th 2017).
Forrest Gump, a comedy-drama, stars Hollywood A-lister Tom Hanks. The film follows a story about a “slow-witted” boy named Forrest Gump (played by Hanks) who doesn’t let his disadvantages stop him from doing what he wants.
The narrative follows Gump from the a young boy to growing up, and all the adventures he goes on, from playing football at college, fighting in the Vietnam war to captaining a shrimp boat. Gump’s personality and straight-forward outlook on life endears everyone he encounters and changes the way they go about life. The underlying story is how much Forrest cares for his childhood love, Jenny, played by Robin Wright.
The movie, directed by Robert Zemeckis and based on the 1986 novel by Winston Groom, won the prestigious Oscar for best picture. With a production budget of $55 million, the film was defiantly a success achieving a worldwide box office gross of $677,945399, $24 million of this in it’s opening week! (IMDB)
Forrest Gump – The Awards
As well as winning Best Picture, Forrest Gump was nominated for 13 other academy awards, winning a total of six! These include Best Actor in a leading role, Best Director, and Best CGI. Across the board Forrest Gump was nominated for a total of 66 awards and won 45 of them.
These include Golden Globes, BAFTA’s, Guild Awards, BMI Awards and many, many more!
“Life Is Like A Box Of Chocolates” – All The Best Bits
Forrest Gump is well known for various scenes and memorable quotes. The main one includes the line Hanks says, “My mom always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get,” and also “run Forrest, run!”
